So we got tickets to Thom Yorke and got to see him on Monday! This show was beyond incredible. Thom Yorke is hands down the best performer of this era. I heard something which was rather enlightening: only three times has the most popular thing in culture been the best. Shakespeare, The Beatles, and Radiohead/Thom Yorke. Watching Thom at work was marvelous to behold.
As usual, the Orpheum Theater was beautiful as always. The first half of the show was them playing The Eraser in its entirety, which was spectacular to say the least. Thom then played 4 or 5 songs solo, including a song called "Lotus Flower" that he says is a new Radiohead song. The rest of the band then came back out to play a few more songs, including the recently released "Hollow Earth" and "Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses."
Thom and company were perfect. There was so much energy flowing, especially between Thom and Flea. One notable thing was how much Thom seemed to enjoy it. He was dancing like a madman the entire gig, much more than he would with Radiohead. In fact, he said that he and the band were sad that they were done with their last show. But, he said that they are going to do some shows next year probably, which is a good sign.
It should be noted, however, that Radiohead is not breaking up or going on a break. The opposite is true actually. Ed O'Brien, guitarist of Radiohead, revealed in an interview that the band is about to start work on another album, and is set to be released in 2010. Anyway, here is a video of Harrowdown Hill:

Thom Yorke LA Shows!

Hey everybody, sorry I haven't been around. This blog just went to the back of my mind and I didn't really consider writing anything until now.
Thom Yorke, the frontman of Radiohead, has announced that he is playing two shows here in Los Angeles on October 4 and 5 at the Orpheum Theater. We were fortunate enough to get tickets, and I am beyond excited right now.
He is playing with Nigel Godrich (who produced most of Radiohead's albums), session drummer Joey Waronker (who has played drums for acts such as Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, and Elliott Smith), percussionist Mauro Refosco (who has played with David Byrne), and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers.
They will be playing Thom Yorke's solo material. This is expected to include the many new songs that Thom has release recently, in addition to The Eraser.

Band of Horses @ Lollapalooza

For me Band of Horses was the best of Lollapalooza. There is a lot to say when a band can come on stage to perform a festival after having to wait around for 20 minutes to let Lou Reed finish his set. You could tell they were pissed back stage, but right when they came on they were on fire. The crowd was loving, and they were loving. You could tell that they did not want the night to end. So they ended up going 30 minutes in the headliner, Jane's Addiction's, set. Fine with me...Band of Horses absolutely killed it, and the lead singer even came into the crowd to sing "The Funeral." Great set of music, and extremely talented band.

Where the Wild Things Are
Oh My Gosh!! This movie is going to epic. I am sooooo excited for it and I have only seen the trailer. This is legitimately one of the things I have looked forward to the most in this year. If you do not know Where the Wild Things Are is a beloved childhood tail of adventure and awesome creatures. This movie is directed by Spike Jonze and is derived from this wonderful book by Maurice Sendak.

The Dead Weather

Jack White is back! This time though, he is with yet another new group, The Dead Weather. This may be his best side project yet, and he isn't even playing the guitar! They sound alot more like the White Stipes, especially compared to the Raconteurs. Here are the band members:
Alison Mosshart [The Kills] - Vocals
Dean Fertita [QOTSA] - Guitars
Jack Lawrence [The Raconteurs] - Bass
Jack White - Drums and Vocals
I am especially excited about Alison Mosshart. Her and Jack's voice go so well together, and she is superb with The Kills. Little Jack Lawrence is always great too, and Jack's drumming is hot and fresh. You can listen to their first two songs on their website: www.thedeadweather.com. I am especially loving Hang You From the Heavens. I look forward to seeing this band shape up to out-do the Raconteurs.

Coachella Adds!
Its that time again! The Chemical Brothers, The Orb, Etienne De Crecy, Plump Dj's, Devandra Banhart, Murder City Devils, and Busy P have all been added to this years Coachella lineup!! Finally, the Sahara is set for Saturday and Sunday.
In addition, Amy Winehouse has been forced to cancel her scheduled appearance. Appartnely, she was unable to obtain a work permit for the US, since she is currently in a court case for assaulting a fan. This leaves some room on Saturday, which hasn't been taken up yet. Maybe there is yet another add in store for us? We will see soon enough.
Heres some live videos to get you aquainted with some of the new adds:

Daft Punk to do TR2N Soundtrack

Thats right, Daft Punk is going to make the soundtrack to the sequel of TRON, titled TR2N. The film is scheduled to release in 2011 though, which is quite a way off. Nonetheless, this is coming from the duo that brought us some of the best electronic music and arguably the greatest live show ever. Not to mention the highly overlooked Electroma and Interstella 5555. I am definitely looking forward to this. Here is the article from Billboard:

Have You Ever?
Have you ever been kidnapped at 5:30 in the morning, blindfolded, and forced to jump in a pool?
That is what I experienced this morning. I woke up to find my fellow service org members telling me to jump out of bed and not grab anything except for my key (to get into my room) and sandals. We were then lead to hold hands with other new members as they guided us through obstacles to get us to where the pool is on campus. When we got to the pool I knew that we would have to jump in. I jumped in with my sweatshirt, shirt, pajama pantss, and sandals on (as well as my underwear).
Good thing that this was all for fun...we got donuts afterwards!
YAY!

Grapevine Fires
This is the new video for Grapevine Fires by Death Cab for Cutie. Directed by Walter Robot.
Based on a true story.
Artistically rendered, and pretty darn emotional.
I love this song and I especially love it in this form.

Grammy Awards
Although much of this award show is filled with scum such as the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cirus, there were a performances that were able to save it.
The best performance of the evening has got to go to Radiohead. They brought it. Since only Thom and Johnny were present, they decided to have the USC marching band accompany them as they performed 15 Step. What a great performance. Gotta love Thom's dancing at around 3:30 as well.
Other great performances included Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West/Estelle, Coldplay, and Al Green/Justin Timberlake.
Hudson gave a stunning performance backed by a magnificent choir. You could tell she was holding back tears, due to her recent loss of her mother, brother, and nephew. Coldplay was great as always, and even had Jay Z perform with Chris Martin for a little while. What was up with Martin sweating like a pig though? Kanye/Estelle performed their hit American Boy, which was very well done. Kanye looked WAY too much like Michael Jackson with the outfit and haircut though. Al Green and Justin Timberlake brought the soul. Surprisingly, JT was able to keep up with Green's funk.
Congrats to Daft Punk and Justice for winning a couple electronic awards as well.

Bonnaroo
We are loving Bonnaroo's lineup this year. Very unique yet well rounded. They snagged alot of acts that we were hoping for at Coachella.
The best part is how they announced it:
Why can't every festival announce their lineup like this??

Untitled Records/ Beck/ Animal Collective
Oh man.
I just found this amazing blog and I am completely excited about it. You should visit it. It has incredible amounts of downloadable music, and is just great. It is under our visit section. UNTITLED RECORDS. While you are at it...you should visit some of the other blogs in the section. Great sites, they may astound you.
I am also very excited about the finding of Beck's version of The Korgis' Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime on The Hype Machine. I have been looking for this song forever, because I did not want to have to buy the whole cd off of Itunes (what a rip off). So, seeing as I found it I will share the beauty with you all! YAY!!!

Wow have you guys heard the new Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion? Great stuff.
This is my favorite song on it. Trippy huh?
P.S. Take some time to just stare at the picture of the cover. It looks like it is moving!!! Click on the picture to see it better.

Life is Good
Don't you just love when everything works out the way you want to. It may take a stressful journey, but at times it all ends for the better. Life is interesting that way. It usually works out when people are understanding and accept the changes that life takes.

Setting: A taping of AMERICAN GLADIATORS
Ensemble: Gold Lame leggings and matching head band from American Apparel. Layering on top of that headband is one from target. Vintage gold and black sunglasses. Yellow short sleeve coat from Nordstrom. High waist shorts from Urban Outfitters.
Never take life for granted, because you never know when it will sneak up on you.
I'm really into this song lately.

Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is hands down one of the best movies of 2008. The story is a tale through the life of a low-class Indian who is on the popular gameshow "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Because of how his life played out and the circumstances that he went through, he is able to provide answers to the gameshow's difficult questions. However, there is much more that lies beneath. Stories of love, friendship, and betrayal encompass the plot as well.
This movie was made the way all films need to be. For two whole hours I was completely engulfed in the film. It was entertainment at its finest, while still making you think and be aware of your surroundings. It was brilliant to say the least. I highly recommend this movie.
